We offer coaching sessions to anyone and everyone, from beginners wanting to excel fast right the way to surfing professionals. Book a one-to-one coaching session with Tom Butler. Or we can cater for up to a group of 4 people so bring some family or friends for the same lesson and get money off your lesson.
We ask all new surfers to fill out pre lesson questionnaires so we can understand your surfing level, experience, used equipment, surfing frequency, health and expectations. This allows us to plan your lesson better before we meet.

1.5 HOUR SURF LESSON
A shorter session consisting of a surf with Tom, with feedback and coaching.
1.5 hour surf lesson
Surf with Tom and ask any ocean-related questions. Be shown personal improvements in technique and ocean awareness to advance your surfing ability and confidence.
Whats included:
- Assess conditions and your equipment
- Warm up and plan for paddle out
- Stop intermittently on beach for technique correction
- Re-hydrate, rest and analyse your session.
You will need a surfboard, wetsuit, towel, drinking water, snacks, note pad and pen. If you don’t have access to your own surfing equipment let us know ahead of your lesson and we can cater for this.

3 HOUR SURF LESSON
Our longer coaching session uses video analysis and pictures to breakdown technique, positioning in ocean, wave selection and manoeuvres.
3 hour surf lesson
Our 3 hour coaching session uses video analysis and pictures to breakdown technique, positioning in ocean, wave selection and manoeuvres.
Whats included
- Assess conditions and your equipment
- Warm up and plan for paddle out
- Head out in the water for a 1 hour session while Tom films from the beach (depending on ability Tom may surf alongside you rather than filming)
- Stop intermittently on beach for technique correction
- Analyse waves
Exit the water for 30 mins re-hydrate, rest and analyse your session so far writing some notes as you watch your footage back with Tom.
Paddle back out for another 40 minutes and put into practice what you have learnt so far.
Exit the water for a 20 minute de-brief of the session writing some notes as you watch your footage back with Tom.
We will send you a selection of your best video footage and images over the days that follow your coaching session.
You will need a surfboard, wetsuit, towel, drinking water, snacks, note pad and pen. If you don’t have access to your own surfing equipment let us know ahead of your lesson and we can cater for this.

Beach and ocean knowledge, understanding rip currents and how best to spot them and escape them, understanding what conditions and beach features might cause rip currents, spotting different types of waves and the causes of why a wave would break in that location, how and what changes the weather has on the ocean, different tides.
Entering and exiting the water safely when swimming, bodyboarding, surfing and related water sports.
Becoming comfortable underwater for short periods of time, starting to venture out of your depth.
Paddling out and in on different types of boards, catching and riding waves.
You will need a surfboard, bodyboard or related surf craft, wetsuit, towel, drinking water, snacks, note pad and pen. If you don’t have access to your own surfing equipment let us know ahead of your lesson and we can cater for this.
